6/30/05 Dear Friends of the AFIP Veterinary Pathology Department, The Department of Defense has recently issued its Base Relocation and Closure (BRAC) recommendations to Congress. Walter Reed Army Medical Center is being recommended for realignment with the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and unfortunately, it has been recommended that the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology be "disestablished". The DoD Veterinary Pathology Residency Program has been cited as "serving military relevant functions" and its retention is being recommended. Further details concerning the Residency Program and the Department of Veterinary Pathology as a whole, have yet to be determined. We are currently working to learn more about the particulars of our future. Expect our pathology services to remain active. We will keep you informed of any new developments as they are clarified. Thank you for your support and concern over our future. |
